Circular

  • Praça Adolpho Bloch São Paulo Brazil (map)

For the fifth edition of the group exhibition ‘Circular na Praça’, initiated by Farah Service, on Praça Adolpho Bloch, a park in the hart of São Paulo, Brazil, curator Marc Pottier invited artists to re-interpret Neo Concretism. Neo Concretism (1959-1961) was an art movement originated in Rio de Janeiro and initiated by the poet Ferreira Gullar and the artist Lygia Clark. As a reaction to the more cold and rational, almost machine like approach of the Concretists, Neo Concretists pledged to approach art with a more transcendental approach. Artworks were seen as ‘almost bodies’ and intuition played an important role in their creation and expression.

The installation ‘Tree Talismans’ brings Neo-Concrete geometric forms to the park, while embracing the tree-bodies and providing the trees with adornment and protection. The crystal pendants are at the same time geometrical forms ánd soft natural forms as nature has grown them all slightly different. By offering Talismans for Trees, Janet ask attention to treat our planet Earth or mother Gaia as a living entity.
